The Position: Lab Technician - A key position in the Lab/Process Analyzer workgroup and must adhere to Lab Quality System and Procedures (ISO) and Safety requirements.  This position will be required to perform daily quality control/environmental testing, but more importantly is responsible for Calibration, Preventative Maintenance, Solution Preparation, troubleshooting and non-routine problem resolutions.  This position will also be responsible for the calibration and maintenance of advanced online process analyzers.  Strong troubleshooting skills are required.

Requirements: 

•    University degree in Chemistry or Chemical Laboratory Technology diploma or equivalent.
•    1-3 years Laboratory experience and Instrumentation experience is an asset.
•    Must be self-motivated and work well with others.
•    Must have high level of comfort using Microsoft Office software especially Excel.
•    Must be willing to continuously learn and improve current practices as well as be open to changing needs and environments especially, relating to equipment and Lab IT infrastructure and software variations.
•    Must have excellent laboratory basic skills like weighing, titrating, keeping all areas and instrumentation clean and organized, etc. (these are gained through practice with time and are evergreen in their development and improvement).
•    Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
•    High level of attention to detail and follow-through.

Responsibilities: 

•    Quality control/environmental testing using:  GC, TOC analyzer, Spectrophotometer, Polarograph, Technicon, Auto-Titrators.
•    Maintain Process GC and Environmental Analyzers: Calibration, Preventative Maintenance, Solutions and Troubleshooting.
•    Work with, and train Operations Technicians for routine testing.
•    Interface proficiently with computers (LIMS, GC Software, Microsoft Office, etc.).
•    Validate results and troubleshoot analysis or equipment.
•    Adhere to Lab Quality System and Procedures (ISO).
•    Maintain a high level of safety within the Lab/Analyzer environment.
•    Attend training courses on and/or off site when required.
•    Work 8 hour days, Monday to Friday and be available for overtime call-in on weekends and off hours as required.
•    Keep up to date and accurate attendance records within the Time & Attendance system.

  • Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Repeat the same movements.
  • Bending/Stooping/Crouching
