Instrumentation Technologist

Instrumentation Technologist - (Joffre, Alberta, Canada)

  • The Instrumentation Technologist reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • The successful candidate should have PLC, fire & gas, analyzer, and various valve software experience.  The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining all software upgrades and revisions and will work closely with the sites E&I Reliability Technician.  Additional responsibilities are listed below.   

Responsibilities:

  • Repair, maintain, and install measurement and control equipment such as control valves, analyzers, control system components, indicators, and field transmitters
  • Configure, backup, and maintain control and monitoring devices and systems to meet plant requirements
  • Install, test, and commission new devices and systems
  • Test, troubleshoot, and diagnose faults using appropriate equipment, software, procedures, and instruction manuals, as necessary
  • Install and maintain tubing systems related to all pneumatic systems
  • Install, repair, and maintain various online analyzers including pH, conductivity, moisture, Near Infra-red (NIR) and other equipment
  • Install, repair, and maintain UV/IR fire detectors and infrared, open path, and electrochemical gas detectors
  • Identify and develop preventative maintenance procedures as required
  • Interpret and troubleshoot PLC and DCS logic as well as Cause & Effect diagrams
  • Interpret and maintain critical drawings (P&ID’s, electrical schematic diagrams, loop wiring diagrams, etc.)
  • Manage outside contractors of I&E specific tasks

Certifications and Experience:

  • Inter-provincial Journeyman Instrumentation trade certification
  • Inter-provincial Journeyman Electrical trade certification is considered an asset
  • Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology is essential
  • Ten years of maintenance experience in the petrochemical or oil field industry
  • Experience with Honeywell, Rosemount, Magnetrol and Endress Hauser transmitters/elements including temperature, pressure, flow, and level
  • Experience in Allen Bradley Control Logix PLC’s and HMI’s troubleshooting and programming
  • Experience with Honeywell TDC 3000 or Experion DCS hardware
  • Knowledge with the following systems:
  • Det-tronics® Eagle Quantum Premier/S3 software
  • Triconex® Tricon PLC/TriStation 1131 software
  • Bently Nevada 3300 or Emerson AMS 6500 vibration monitoring system
  • Fisher FIELDVUE ValveLink
  • Emerson AMS Device Manager
  • Intergraph SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI)
  • Familiarity in the use of Computerized Management Systems (SAP) is considered an asset
  • Proven strong troubleshooting problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Computer literate with experience and skill in the use of common Office applications
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Strong software skills regarding Instrumentation related programs
  • Ability to work in a cross functional team environment
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with employees at all levels of the organization

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and perform tasks requiring repetitive use of hands.  The employee must walk, stand, and travel by car or other means.  
  • The must be able to work in a variety of environments that include both fieldwork and deskwork.  Minimum requirements include:
  • Maintaining constant awareness of personal safety and the safety of all other personnel.  This includes knowledge of unit operation, procedures, and rules.
  • Being able to work in a safety sensitive environment that includes high voltage equipment, large rotating equipment, and hazardous chemicals. 
  • Must be able to withstand both winter and summer temperatures while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $115,000.00-$127,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift

Supplemental pay types:

  • Bonus pay

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Joffre, AB T4N 5H3: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:

  • in the chemical or petrochemical industry: 10 years (preferred)

License/Certification:

  • IP Journeyman Electrical trade certification (preferred)
  • Journeyman Instrumentation Trade Diploma (required)
