The Industrial Hygienist is responsible for development and implementation of effective industrial hygiene programs and the workplace exposure assessment strategy for the chemicals in accordance with applicable OSHA and EPA regulations. The position monitors all physical, biological, and chemical agents in the environment to assess actual and potential exposure to employees. This individual will be the subject matter expert in respiratory protection, hearing conservation, lead awareness, and occupational exposure to hazardous physical and chemical agents. This role will advise management on completion of exposure assessments and consult with management on the methodologies for reduction of occupational exposure. The Industrial Hygienist promotes safety as a specialist to assist in the investigation of incidents, safety meetings and dissemination of lessons learned. This job description is intended to provide an overview of the position and does not include all the tasks that might be required to provide support for your job requirements. The position has site-wide programmatic scope and influences INEOS Aromatic‘s personnel, contractors, emergency preparedness and incident investigation teams. Communicate health & safety issues and provide options and strategies for meeting legal requirements and improving H&S performance to plant Operations, Maintenance, Technical, and Leadership teams.

Key Accountabilities

  • Addressing safety and health issues including OSHA, EPA, process safety, behavioral safety, and INEOS Aromatic‘s standards
  • Review, interpret, and clarify legal requirements applicable to INEOS Aromatic’s in both safety and industrial hygiene, and ensure site programs comply with requirements
  • Conducts exposure assessments for all physical, biological, or chemical agents in the workplace which may present actual or potential exposure to employees
  • Manage assigned safety and health programs and procedures, monitoring conformance and intervening to improve performance
  • Lead and participate in risk assessments to identify hazards, potential impacts, and agreement of appropriate risk management measures
  • Coordinates the industrial hygiene program for the site, including hazard communication, benzene, hearing conservation, etc…
  • Manages the Respiratory Protection Program. Periodically reviews the program to ensure its continued effectiveness and compliance with OSHA Standards
  • Develop and deliver health and safety training to address Life Saving Rules, OSHA requirements, INEOS Aromatic’s standards, and site programs
  • Complete regulatory reports such as SARA 311/312, TSCA Chemical Data Reporting,and annual & project related asbestos notification
  • Analyze site industrial hygiene data and trends, communicate results, and recommend interventions to improve performance
  • This role may at times be appointed the Site Radiation Officer, asbestos, or lead coordinator
  • This role may at times serve on the Incident Management Team (IMT) or the Emergency Response team (ERT)
  • Maintains the monitoring plan for the site and ensures the monitoring is conducted
  • Coordinates H&S policy updates not just the IH related but all H&S policies
  • Compliance with and promotion of different behavioral and process safety initiatives and measures – supporting 20 INEOS SHE Principles, IGGN’s, SHE KPI’s, risk assessments, etc.  These initiatives are reviewed on yearly appraisals.

Education and Experience:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Safety Science, or Industrial Hygiene-required
  • 5+ years in H&S management systems & Industrial Hygiene
  • 5+ years in manufacturing facility experience
  • Masters’ degree in Industrial Hygiene or Occupational Health Certification in the practice of Industrial Hygiene (CIH) or Safety CSP- Preferred
  • Process Safety, Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene knowledge
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High degree of work organization.
