The Position

The Industrial Electrician / I&E Technician is responsible for the safe and accurate oversight, troubleshooting and repair of the INEOS Plant and process electrical systems.

INEOS ABS is an affiliate of INEOS Styrolution, with both companies being wholly-owned by INEOS AG. The INEOS ABS manufacturing facility produces plastic polymers and is located in Addyston, OH, just outside of Cincinnati, OH. INEOS ABS produces a well-balanced portfolio of high quality products with a strong focus on specialty ABS. Its leading technology and application development platform is widely recognized in the industry, making it the provider of choice for customers requiring value-added properties such as color, toughness, durability, heat resistance and appearance.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Work appropriately with hazardous raw materials, including Butadiene, Acrylonitrile, Styrene, and Maleic Anhydride.
  • Pull cable, run conduit, and terminate electrical wiring per drawings.
  • Repair/Replace AC/DC motors (480/4160 VAC) starters, (480/4160VAC) buckets, (480/4160 and up) switchgear, drives, relays, switches, instruments, breaker panels, etc., from low voltage to medium voltage.
  • Troubleshoot and repair AC/DC electrical equipment, including all pneumatic, electric, heat tracing and fluid powered items on site.
  • Read electrical drawings and use them to troubleshoot, install/replace electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot/replace flow, pressure, temperature, level, position switches, and instruments.
  • Rebuild control valves; calibrate control valves, troubleshoot control valves.
  • Troubleshoot/replace and calibrate flow meters, level, pressure and temperature meters.
  • Troubleshoot and repair actuated, quarter-turn valves with position indication.
  • Troubleshoot and be able to read PLC programs. 
  • Troubleshoot Delta V and Provox systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair Motor drives.
  • Troubleshoot/repair digital cameras, analyzers, etc.
  • Troubleshoot, size, and replace electrical protection systems.
  • Troubleshoot/replace lighting, floodlights and similar lighting equipment fixtures.
  • Actively participate in daily maintenance meetings/safety meetings, and complete all safety and technical training activities.
  • Fill, secure and label Hazardous Waste Drums.
  • Coordinate the work activities of electrical contractors.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in work areas and shop.
  • Perform job tasks and training requirements as outlined in SOP’s and verbal instructions.
  • May work alone or with other electricians, mechanics, contractors, or other plant personnel (including operators, supervision, engineers, etc.)
  • Operate plant equipment including but not limited to JLG, tow motor, scissor lift.
  • Participates in on-call rotation for off shift emergency work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned which may not be specifically listed in the position description, but which are within general occupational duties and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s skills.

Training, Skills, and Knowledge Required

  • Must pass a Company developed written and hands on test.
  • Must pass qualification testing and “walk-throughs” within a reasonable period of time.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education and a minimum of 6 months in a production or maintenance environment.
  • Electrical journeyman’s card preferred
  • Two year electrical technical degree preferred
  • NCCER Electrician and or Instrumentation certification preferred
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with diverse groups.
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to thoroughly understand and follow complex work procedures.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Proficient in the use of various electrical test equipment including Fluke 754, 475 Hart Unit, TREX, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot chemical processes and equipment using a Distributed Control System (DCS) and troubleshoot using Aspen IP.21 Process Browser data.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to frequently (70-100%) stand, ascend and descend stairs, turn valve/wrench handles, stoop, and reach at/below shoulder height.
  • Must be able to occasionally (30-60%) sit, walk, ascend and descend caged ladders, bend, kneel/crouch/crawl, reach above shoulder height, tolerate repetitive motion and utilize fine motor dexterity.
  • Must be able to infrequently (10-20%) twist.
  • Scheduled eight hours per day, five days per week. Possibility of working six days per week or working extra hours on the shift. Possibility of working seven days a week and/or shift work.
  • Must be able to occasionally work in cramped quarters, at heights, around dusts / mists / fumes, on wet or damp walking or work surfaces and around chemicals (AN, Bd, MA, Styrene and others). May require ½ face respirator, full face respirator and PAPR (Powered Air Purified Respirator) as needed.
  • Must be able to infrequently work with vibratory tools, do confined space entry, operate vehicles, and work with automated machinery.
  • Must be able to wear steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, long sleeves, hearing protection, fall protection and other PPE as warranted.
  • Must be able to frequently work at a moderate pace.
  • Must be able to occasionally work closely with co-workers, rely on the assistance of others to accomplish daily tasks and at a rapid pace.
  • Must have the ability to see written documents, computer screens and to adjust focus.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound. Must perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction. 
  • This position is considered a “safety critical job”, which requires continuous study (SOP’s, Training Manuals, procedural updates), for the employee to be always alert, able to concentrate on their task at hand, and not impaired by medications (prescription, non-prescription, illegal or legal substances including alcohol), or any other mental condition which adversely affects alertness, concentration, or judgment.
