THE POSITION

The primary role of the I&E Technician is performing repair, installation, trouble shooting, calibration and some field design of electrical, electronic and pneumatic equipment.  The technician utilizes a variety of test and analyzing equipment to calibrate, evaluate performance, and adjust controls for optimum plant performance. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adheres to and supports company safety rules and principles.  Ensures all job activties are excuted in a safe and efficient manner, consistent with safety expectations and a culture of prevention.

  • Performs repair, installation, trouble shooting, calibration and some field design on electrical and instrument systems as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor or Electrical Engineer

  • Provides documentation of changes and modifications of the work assigned.

  • Provides technical assistance to contract personnel engaged in electrical and instrumentation as requested by supervisor.

  • Works with 120/480 Electrical Systems

  • Uses SAP to review Work Orders, Input History, Input Delay Codes

  • Follows established maintenance procedures, specifications and standards in initiation, execution, and completion of assigned work orders.

  • Uses calibration software and computer aided calibrators to perform instrument calibrations

  • Reads electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and ladder logic for troubleshooting and system understanding

  • Participates in factory acceptance testing and functional testing of new installations to verify proper operation

  • Provides input for procedures for checkout and maintenance of systems located throughout the plant

  • Attends training sessions designed to improve skills and acquaint technician with new equipment, repair and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Promptly communicates abnormal conditions to immediate supervisor.

  • Maintains clean and orderly area and reports all safety hazards immediately to the supervisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates degree in an Instrument or Electrical discipline required

  • At least 3 years of chemical/petrochemical experience as a Maintenance I&E Technician, 5+ years preferred

  • NCCER certification in Instrument Technician V3 is preferred

  • NCCER certification in Industrial Electrician V3 is preferred

  • Ability to work overtime, including being available for call out on holidays and weekends as is necessary for the continued operations of the plant per the call out list

Physical Requirements:

Additional Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge in Excel, Word and other common computing software is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required.

  • Strong computative and analytical ability required.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills

  • Knowledge of the following preferred

    • Volt Ohm Meter

    • Pressure, Temperature, and Level Instruments

    • Coriolis Meters

    • Loop Drawings

    • Electrical Ladder Diagrams

    • PLC Logic

    • P&ID’s

    • 120/480 Electrical Systems

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate must be willing and able to:

  • Work with hazardous and/or flammable chemicals (with proper safety precautions, training and equipment).

  • Work around and/or manually interact with heavy equipment.

  • Work outside, year round under various weather conditions.

  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time.

  • Work in environments that require frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

  • Work in tight or confined spaces and able to work at heights above 25 feet by climbing stairs and vertical ladders.

  • Lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Climb a ladder up to 200'

  • Cimb to 100' in 40' sections

  • Wear a respirator and/or fresh air mask

  • Use all types of hand tools

THE LOCATION

This opportunity is located in Texas City, Texas about 40 miles Southeast of Houston and 10 miles north of Galveston Island. Please note that relocation is not available for this position.
