THE POSITION

The Instrument and Electrical Specialist executes long and short term capital projects on the Texas City Styrene Unit, assists in planning and execution for styrene unit turnarounds, supports the electrical and analyzer departments, provides technical knowledge to mechanical and process engineering groups, and provides electrical expertise to site management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the development, budgeting, and execution of small capital projects on the styrene unit.  This will include generating formal and controlled work procedures and packages for implementation, collecting and reviewing bids and supervising construction to ensure proper and cost effective project implementation.
  • Provide work packages for, supervise installation of, and prioritize and coordinate resources between projects for unit turn around work.  The work packages generated for projects will include installation, startup, and operating procedures, manuals, and technical drawings for the applicable contract and proprietary maintenance forces, ensuring proper project implementation.
  • Supervise and assist maintenance in identifying and correcting faults in a wide range of electrical and electronic equipment, including: magnetic, static, variable speed and programmable logic controllers, instrumentation, control valves, motors, compressors, turbine generators, and control and indication circuitry to support uninterrupted unit operation. 
  • Provide direction and constraints on electrical work regarding local policies and engineering practices and continually update these policies and practices based on governing standards (NEC, OSHA, API, ANSI) to ensure personnel safety and equipment longevity.
  • Support the management of change system on the unit as a reference for electrical issues including safety, functionality, and applicability and perform necessary actions to ensure changes are properly implemented.
  • Actively support safety and supporting safety processes such as Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPAs) and other risk assessments.  May lead or participate in incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective recommendations to prevent reoccurence.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.; Associates degree in I&E preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in plant I&E maintenance and electrical distribution required with Associate's degree; minimum of 10 years of plant I&E experience required without Associate's degree.
  • Knowledge of engineering contracting and project execution 
  • Strong knowledge of electrical standards and practices
  • Contractor management and project development skills
  • Experience with incident investigation & Root Cause Analysis
  • Experience setting up maintenance plans for I&E equipment
  • Experience in developing turnaround plans for I&E equipment
  • Knowledge of NEC and applicable IEEE specifications
  • Knowledge of OSHA electrical safety requirements
  • Knowledge of electrical API and ANSI standards
  • High level of troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency with MS software including spreadsheets and databases (initiate and maintain)

THE LOCATION

This opportunity involves supporting two plant locations.  One is located in Pasadena, Texas and the other is in Texas City, Texas.  The sites are approximately 20 miles apart.  Pasadena is part of the Houston metropolitan area, about 30 miles from downtown.  Texas City is about 40 miles Southeast of Houston and 10 miles north of Galveston Island.  Please note that relocation assistance is not available for this position.
