The Position: I&E Intern  - The Internship provides “workforce readiness” opportunities for college students in the surrounding communities to gain hands on knowledge and skills in the trades of Instrumentation and Industrial Maintenance. This internship is an opportunity to integrate the knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skill development in a professional setting.  Working with experienced employees, interns will be involved in projects and be given significant, meaningful work to perform.  Internships do not guarantee employment but may provide a job opportunity in the future. The internship will support Joliet Junior College and the Three Rivers Manufacturing Association.  Internships will be made available for a minimum of 12-24 months.

Requirements: 

  • Required GPA 3.0 with a minimum of 16 credits toward Joliet Junior College Certificate or Associates Degree outlined by TRMA, or completed Instrumentation or Industrial maintenance Certificate or Associate Degree.
  • Complete and pass a criminal background check, physical and drug screen.
  • Strong work ethic, attitude and safety-consciousness required.
  • Must have strong communication skills, proficient knowledge of computers, including email and Microsoft Office software
  • Must be dependable, enthusiastic and have the ability to work in a highly functional team environment.
  • Interns will be given time during the week to attend their classes and provide flexible work schedules.

Responsibilities:

  • Instrumentation: Will acquire or demonstrate the ability to perform basic instrument calibration on temperature, level, pressure and flow device, motor testing, wiring, read and understand P&ID’s, refrigeration, control valve adjustments and position calibrations.
  • Exposure to ISO procedures, Process Safety Management and failure cause and analysis.
  • Gain knowledge on compliance with all applicable site safety, environmental and industrial hygiene standards and practices.
  • Will be trained and certified to run the man lift and fork truck operations.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Continuous standing above 7 hours, making decisions, adapt to changes in the workplace, use of memory, concentration and memory. 
  • Frequent walking, sitting, lifting up to 10 lbs., pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, climbing, twisting/turning, reaching above shoulder level, grasping/manipulation of both hands, exposure to temperature extremes, high noise levels, social interaction and working alone.
  • Occasional lifting up to 11-50lbs, carrying up to 50 lbs., viewing a computer monitor, kneeling, crawling, balancing, operating machinery, wearing respiratory equipment and exposure to dust/fumes, chemicals/solvents, allergic agents, enclosed spaces, wet conditions, reduced light levels, electrical sources, may work alone or in confined spaces.  
  • Medical clearance needed to wear a half-face respirator.

The Location: This opportunity is located in Channahon, Illinois, United States , only one hour from Chicago, Illinois.
