Global Product Steward  (F/M/D)

Organisational context and job purpose

Provide global compliance regulatory support for our products, to ensure compliance of current products and future developments and to provide general regulatory support in the Global Regulatory Affairs Group.

  • Product regulations are increasing in number and complexity across the world, particularly in Europe and Asia. We see increasing food contact legislation with rigorous demands for risk assessment and supporting documentation, with activities on a global as well as on a regional and local basis.
  • Consumer product safety has come into a lot of focus. As a result, interaction with internal and external stakeholders has increased significantly. Our customers expect and require strong and competent regulatory support from us and this has become a key differentiating factor in the marketplace.
  • In addition, we see increasing requirements to support regulatory aspects for the circular economy
  • INEOS Styrolution has around 3000 grades sold into the market. This provides very high complexity for regulatory issues
  • INEOS Styrolution operates several different production processes leading to high regulatory complexity
  • Areas such as food contact are highly sensitive and demanding, requiring rigour precision and careful communication.
  • Regulatory Affairs at INEOS Styrolution are handled in accordance to a principle of subsidiarity: What can be done in the business close to the customer should be done there, i.e. within the regional business units. The Global Regulatory Affairs/ Product Stewardship team takes over overarching tasks and many tasks that have a high level of complexity. The global team also has a regulatory compliance governance role. Overall, there is a stable trend of increasing complexity in Global Product Stewardship. Therefore, the position requires the ability to deal with complex requests and fast changing priorities and requires a high level of chemical expertise.
  • This is a Global function,
    • It is therefore necessary to be aware of the Global grade range and the important regulations affecting our products in the Global context.
    • Interaction with different nationalities, with different working cultures and practices

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Ensure compliance of our existing and future product range in the Product Stewardship area for our Global product range. Responsibilities can cover a broad range of subjects such as:
    • Review and maintenance of compliance of existing food contact grades. This requires working with expert contractors and procurement to assess raw material and final product compliance. This can involve dossier work, modelling, risk assessment and advanced analytical studies.
    • Coordination of studies at external laboratories required for important aspects of compliance and to support different regulatory dossiers.
  • Global Product Regulatory IT tool content management to enable high quality regulatory customer support and lean processes, such as:
    • Customer Request Database
    • SAP EHS
    • E-Portal
  • Support for Dangerous Goods and Pre-Cargo lists
  • Customer support for IMDS/CAMDS databases supporting the Automobile industry for Product Stewardship compliance
  • Chemical Control and Global Inventory assistance
  • Safety datasheet and Classification and Labelling support
  • Developing and support regulatory aspects for the circular economy and our sustainability agenda
  • Assessment of new product developments for regulatory compliance in target markets.
  • Responsibility for the compliance of raw materials with product safety regulatory requirements
  • This covers the review of existing raw materials and the approval of new raw materials
  • Assessment of Management of change procedures affecting product safety issues.
  • Monitoring of global developments and mitigating risks with respect to regulatory constraints around specific industries and applications.
  • Advisory and consultancy role in regulatory matters for the business organization
  • Develop strategies with the Global Product Stewardship Manager to address regulatory trends
  • Participates actively in certain industry committees to address specific regulatory concerns and trends.
  • Provides support to businesses to answer customer requests concerning regulatory affairs if the consumer safety specialists in the businesses cannot address the question directly. Customer contact will be through the consumer safety specialists in the business

Skills & Knowledge required

Education/Experience

  • Level of education & Knowledge:
    • Graduate or PhD Chemist, or science subject with significant chemistry to understand regulatory issues, experience in R&D / Product Development an advantage
  • Experience in general:
    • 2+ years in Regulatory areas, experience on Plastic product regulatory issues would be an advantage
    • Knowledge of SAP and or other Business IT systems would be an advantage
    • Project management related to IT projects an advantage

Skills/Competencies

  • Technical skills:
    • High level of spoken and written English
    • Knowledge of product related regulations
    • Good knowledge of INEOS Styrolution grade range, processes and product formulations would be an advantage
  • Competencies, Behavioral skills: (acc. to competency profile and required level of descriptions)
    • Excellent team worker
    • Excellent attention to detail but ability to see / explain ‘forest rather than trees’
    • Ability to work under heavy pressure to deliver as required
    • Persistence to follow through highly complex issues
    • Good understanding of complex regulatory issues related to our complex grade range
