INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA operates from 12 sites in the USA, manufacturing and marketing four main product lines: Olefins, High Density Polyethylene resin, Manufactured Polyethylene Pipe, and Polypropylene resin.

With an annual manufacturing capacity of 9.1 billion pounds of petrochemicals and polyethylene pipe, INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA is a major participant in the North American chemical industry. A workforce of over 1700 makes up our employee team. They staff our Marina View headquarters in League City, Texas; our fractionation facility located between the communities of Seminole, Texas, and Hobbs, New Mexico; our major manufacturing plants at La Porte and Alvin, Texas; our West Coast manufacturing facility in Carson, California, and eight pipe extrusion plants located across the US.

The 300-acre INEOS Battleground Manufacturing Complex (BMC) was originally built in 1956 and is located on the Houston ship channel east of Houston, Texas. The site is comprised of 7 polyethylene lines; 1 polypropylene line; a 20 MW Cogen facility; and a state-of-the-art polyolefin technical center that supports research and development, technical services and quality assurance. In 2017, a new world-scale bimodal polyethylene unit was brought online to manufacture high-density polyethylene.

How the Role Fits in: 

This position is part of a team of financial professionals who are responsible for ensuring the integrity of the Accounting and Financial Records for the Battleground Manufacturing Complex of INEOS Olefins & Polymers.  The team provides financial reporting, analysis, monitoring and transaction processing support to a manufacturing plant that produces over 2.6 billion pounds of plastic annually.

It is at the first rung of our financial analyst professional ladder.

The Main Purpose of the Role: 

The purpose of the BMC Financial Analyst position is to ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, assist in forecasting, and preparation of reports for Site Leadership, Business Managers, and members of the Executive Team.  This role has frequent interaction and must build relationships within the site.  As a team member, this role supports others on the team to ensure that all work is done.   A flexible work schedule is required to meet monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial book close deadlines.

Responsibilities AND Accountabilities

  • Provide necessary support during the monthly financial close process so that the site financial results are accurately completed on a timely basis.  This includes recording of accruals, overhead costs, utilities, third party service bill-outs, feedstock and raw material consumption (including Gemini), capital project activity, etc.
  • Assist with month end inventory postings and review mass balance of production and consumption activity, as well as quarterly physical inventory counts and reconciliations of process materials.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports that recap plant performance and perform necessary analysis to clearly interpret these results for management including working capital, departmental spending, etc.
  • Analyze trends and prepare/compile financial forecasts for the site as required.
  • Compile and post bi-monthly payroll distribution to the ledger using the Workday information file.
  • Support management interpretation of financial transactions, events, and INEOS policies for users who must make economic or business decisions.
  • Maintain and support INEOS internal control processes and the delegation of authority as it relates to management approvals and transaction processing.  Compile and support the quarterly vendor spend approval process.
  • Support plant personnel and the central accounts payable team to achieve prompt and accurate processing of site invoices.
  • Support compliance efforts by providing information to financial auditors as required.
  • Participate in special projects from time to time, as directed by site or corporate management.
  • Responsible for practicing Behavioural and Process Safety Practices that meet or exceed Company, Site, and Project requirements.

Skills & Knowledge Required

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Financial experience in a manufacturing environment and/or Chemical industries experience a plus.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, are required. 
  • SAP FI/CO/MM module knowledge (knowledge of other modules also a plus)
  • Working knowledge of financial internal control processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills – some of the work in this role is deadline driven.
  • Self-starting individual who can work with a minimum of direction preferred.
  • Must have good communication skills and be able to discuss and explain financial transactions and processes in a clear and concise way to individuals across the organization.
