Finance Analyst

Role synopsis:

The Finance Analyst role is a key part of the site finance team ensuring the integrity of the P/L and Balance Sheet and partnering with management to provide meaningful analysis and forecasting.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Partner with cost center owners in monthly accruals, variance analysis, forecasting, and annual plan.  Prepare monthly summary analysis and slides for site leadership.  Ensure leaders understand monthly performance variances and are clear on areas for performance improvement.
  • Partner with production engineers to record monthly raw material and utility consumptions, calculate unit conversion costs, provide analysis of variances, and ensure all variable costs are recorded accurately.  Ensure inventories are balanced monthly.   
  • Support bill of materials, routing, and product costing in SAP, including formula and contract-driven prices.
  • Work with local project teams to be the finance tag for capital projects including review of project economics and analysis of actual spend.
  • Manage site service billings, including becoming familiar with term sheets and ensuring rebills and charges are in line with term sheets. 
  • Produce journal entries and perform other closing activities.
  • Support the site Delegation of Approval process and tracking.
  • Work with IT, manufacturing, procurement, and the rest of the finance team to simplify processes and lead continuous improvement projects.   Ensure spreadsheets and processes are controlled. 
  • Support government surveys, environmental reporting, ad hoc reporting, and any other activities. 
  • Back up other members of the finance team. 

Skills & Knowledge Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum five years of professional accounting, finance or relevant experience.
  • Cost accounting experience in refining or the chemicals industry is preferred.
  • Strong numerical and analytic skills and business acumen.
  • Able to manage workload to meet strict closing deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to seek information from others, resolve issues, and present information effectively and persuasively.
  • Able to gather information systematically and organize it to solve complex process issues and drive lasting change.
  • Understands the value of procedures and controls and is willing to maintain controls in the face of expediency or opposition.
  • Actively works to identify improvements. 
  • Professional qualification (e.g. CMA, CPA) is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.  Powerpoint a plus.
  • High level of SAP experience
