INEOS Trading & Shipping (ITS) trades almost 10 million tonnes of physical feedstock every year enabling other businesses within INEOS; in particular four highly integrated and differentiated crackers of INEOS in Europe, to manufacture chemicals and polymers.

We have a growing shipping fleet under our control of 20 vessels, which includes the 27,500 cbm Dragon series of ships capable of transporting feedstock from the US to our cracker sites in Scotland and Norway. The shipping team transports more than 5 million tonnes of products per year for our businesses with around 2000 movements per year across seaborne and inland routes.

We are currently looking for a Feedstock Barge Optimisation Specialist to join our organisation as part of a wider Operations Team.  As a key member of the INEOS Trading & Shipping Team, this role is responsible for establishing safe and optimised feedstock barge plans to maximise value, whilst keeping the Koeln crackers running. 

Job Purpose 

Optimise Feedstock Barge Fleet and set monthly plans to ensure that the INEOS Chartered barges are fully utilised, whilst keeping the Koeln crackers running.  Working with the Chartering Team and Feedstock Optimisation Manager to deliver maximum benefit across the feedstocks and Olefins products.  Assess impact & agree/request changes to the relevant plans. Set and maintain the barging supply and demand profile for 0-6 months. Provide input on barges for the financial forecasts.  Alignment of barging requirements on butane and naphtha based on internal customer requirements (Sites, Traders, Chartering and Operations team).  Identification of when additional barging capacity is required, backloading opportunities, renewals, redelivery & sub-letting opportunities.  Liaise with jetty, INEOS Marine Assurance Superintendents and site teams on any technical issues with barging.

Accountabilities 

  • Set monthly Feedstock barging plans for INEOS Chartered barges to fully utilize, always ensuring the critical supply to the crackers. Using the available capacity and site optimization processes to clarify the impact on EBITDA and site economics.
  • Communicating and delivering the barge plan. React to any change in price or incident that may in turn impact optimization.
  • Ensure clear communication between the barge owners, site operations, chartering and financial teams on the barge plan and forecast any changes.
  • Identification and optimization of any flex in the existing contracts both on the chartering contracts and commercial deals (both spot and term deals).
  • Working with the Shipping Optimisation Manager to communicate the monthly plan and barge optimisation process.  Analyse and provide updated forecast on barge costs. Validate barge related invoices.
  • Assisting the Chartering Manager on resolving any barge issues with owners or jetty team.
  • Lead operational contact for gas barge managing company HGK. Monthly monitoring of operational spend and maintenance budget.
  • Understand the technical aspects of the barges and any jetty constraints and working closely with the Koeln jetty team, IMAS and the chartering team.
  • Contribute to setting and collating of KPI data monthly, understand the costs and highlight any issues or improvements.
  • Work closely with other INEOS businesses’ procurement teams to deliver benefits and synergies by close co-operation on joint business positions with suppliers.
  • Assist Chartering Manager and Charterer on Barge projects.  Cover chartering team members as required.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

  • Working knowledge of barge operations.
  • Strong track record of operations commercial delivery and influencing teams to deliver.
  • Excellent IT and analytical skills.
  • A knowledge of INEOS sites, products and operations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to challenge constructively and articulate the issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both in the written and spoken word, are needed as the role requires the job holder to be able to communicate clearly with internal customers and third parties often under time constraints.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Languages preferred, fluent in English.
