Having committed to significant investment over the next few years, we now require a Ship & Barge Marine Assurance Superintendent with relevant experience to play a key role in the delivery and support of this growth in our business to be based in the Antwerp Area.
INEOS Trading & Shipping is an integrated trading business providing feedstocks, energy and financial risk management. The main emphasis within the Trading & Shipping business is on the safe and reliable delivery of the physical supply and logistical chain, vital for provision of the correct quality and quantity of materials at the right time. In any 24 hour operation, delays and inaccuracies add complication and cost which need to be minimised where possible. Nowhere is this more important than in the delivery of Feedstocks from the USA to Europe where INEOS Trading & Shipping is responsible for the operation and optimisation of INEOS’ fleet of ships and barges.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Marine Assurance Manager, the post holder will be responsible for assessing vessels and vessel managers for suitability and use by the INEOS Businesses to transport petrochemicals, oils and gasses by sea and inland waterways. Provide marine expertise and support to INEOS Owned or Operated Terminals including projects and to represent INEOS on appropriate industry Forums or working groups.
Principle Accountabilities
- Assist with the development, maintenance and delivery of the INEOS Marine Assurance (IMAS) Ship and Barge vetting standards and procedures in order to manage the risks associated with marine shipping and inland barging operations.
- Develop and maintain good networking relationships with all INEOS businesses to enhance their Ship and Barge marine operations. Provide hands-on specialised marine technical support to INEOS businesses and projects within mainland Europe and other sites as required.
- As an accredited Ship or Barge inspector carry out inspections to an agreed industry standard including submission of these reports to the industry database for evaluation by International users.
- Point of contact for specialised knowledge on European Inland Barging legislation. Conduct INEOS specific Ship/Barge Charterers inspections on voyage and Time Charterer vessels.
- Conduct Ship/Barge or Terminal safety inspections at INEOS Owned or Operated Terminals, including verification audits and recommend actions for improvement.
- Participate in Ship/Barge incident investigations when required and routinely assess incident reports submitted by vessel operators as part of the ongoing vessel assessment process.
- Represent INEOS in appropriate industry working groups or Forums
Job Requirements
- Ability to work across many businesses with differing priorities, both within and outwith the INEOS Group.
- Provide out-of-hours vetting and emergency response support on an on call rota.
- To be an accredited Ship/Barge inspector or meet the criteria to become an accredited inspector.
- Ability to work on your own initiative with minimum supervision including planning work schedules in good time to meet agreed objectives.
- Ability to be flexible when required to meet occasional out of hours work requirements due to the 24 hour nature of marine operations.
- Be available to travel mainly by road in Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and North of France to meet business needs.
- Be available to travel for meetings in the UK or other European countries when required.
Qualifications, knowledge and Skills
- STCW Class 1 qualified Master Mariner or Chief Engineer Preferred
- Extensive operational, technical and safety knowledge of Gas, Chemical and Oil Tanker operations through serving on such vessels and/or being previously employed in an appropriate ship or terminal management position ashore.
- Accredited SIRE Ship/Barge Inspector or ability to meet accreditation entry criteria.
- ADN Qualified or ability to obtain such qualification.
- Current knowledge of Oil, Chemical and Gas Barges would be an advantage.
- Excellent planning and coordination skills.
- High level of communication skills, dealing with all levels in the organisation.
- Be fluent in multiple languages including English, Dutch, German
- Trained and experienced in incident investigation. ISM and/or ISO auditor accreditation.
- Hold a valid and unrestricted car-driving license.
