Organisational context and job purpose
INEOS Phenol consists of 3 manufacturing sites in Europe (Antwerp, Gladbeck and Marl) and 2 in the USA (Mobile, AL and Pasadena, TX). Cumene, the raw material for Phenol and Acetone, is produced in two sites, Pasadena and Marl. Phenol and Acetone – the two core products - are produced at the other 3 locations. Recently, the Business acquired the cumene, phenol, acetone and bisphenol A assets of Mitsui Phenols Singapore, which will be integrated in the course of 2023. Total current production capacity in Mts for Phenol and Acetone is 3 M/a, for Cumene is at 1.8 M/a plus. AMS (Alpha Methyl Styrene) is only produced in Gladbeck at ca 40 KT/a. The European customer base is served by the major modes of transport (coastal shipping, barging, trucking, rail, intermodal) from the 2 European production sites. For exports deep-sea parcel tankers are used. The three major products are considered as commodities and need a low costs high performance supply chain. Logistics procurement is also handling major raw material streams (Cumene, Benzene & Propylene) for both the European & US sites.
Main purpose of the role:
This position is responsible for managing all EU logistics procurement service activities in the most efficient way and at the lowest supply chain cost and in this way contributing to the Phenol business global EBITDA.

Responsibilities and accountabilities
- Ensure SHE and quality standards in logistical distribution
- Maintain ISO documentation for INEOS Phenol business for approved suppliers and perform quarterly and annual reviews (SQAS – IMAS vetting)
- Execute customer/ suppliers/ service provider quality standard audits
- Address non performing suppliers and deal with logistics issues at hand
- Ensure low cost high performance logistics for European sites covering raw materials (Cumene, Benzene and Propylene) as well as finished products (Phenol, Acetone, AMS) and this within the business DOA’s
- Negotiate and contract logistics activities worldwide & Europe with the specific focus on reducing overall costs by leveraging volumes and improving service. Service providers include deep-sea and coastal parcel tank shipping, barging, storage, transshipping terminals, surveying, rail, road and intermodal transport mode
- Take the lead and/or Coordinate activities with other INEOS businesses to achieve maximum value for the group e.g. in form of joined tenders where appropriate e.g. INEOS barge tender
- Engineering and re-engineering of supply chain
- Analyse and control that contracts and agreements are utilized to an optimum basis in the day-to-day operational business
- Cost control and management of logistics KPIs
- Ensure free flow of material in accordance to demands of own organisation and customer
- Advise senior / board management on logistical issues and collaborates with Marketing and Production at an early stage in the procurement process to establish service that meets sales requirements at the best value
- Logistics analysis for Sales and Marketing of cost to serve by origins and destinations
- Co-develop and direct sources of Logistics services that assure a continuous flow of inbound and outbound materials at the best overall cost.
- Ensure a high standard site management team
- Ensure supervision and coaching of Logistic Procurement Manager (Gladbeck)
Skills and Competencies
Level of education & Experience in general
Bachelor degree or equivalent and ten or more years related experience.
English, Dutch and German
Technical skills
Senior knowledge and understanding about logistics procurement, logistics operations and engineering of supply chain involving all modes of transports
Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team.
Human relations skills
Knowledge of MS-Office applications, Lotus Notes, SAP
Behavioral skills
Ability to positively interact within the organization and outside the company on any level incl. authorities. The ability to persuade others of way to go forward
