A unique opportunity has arisen for a full time Emergency Responder to join the Grangemouth Emergency Response Team. The Emergency Responder will attend emergency incidents and act in a competent and controlled manner irrespective of incident type such as: fire, rescue, gas leaks, explosions, pollution and accidents. The Emergency Responder will also

  • Render first aid and provide security support
  • Maintenance and checking of emergency response equipment
  • To attend standbys and ensure that work under supervision is carried out in a safe competent controlled manner, to suspend work activities where conditions change or there may be risk to plant personnel
  • Deliver fire extinguisher and breathing apparatus training to contractors and complex personnel
  • Only nominated emergency team members with relevant competencies will cover emergency medical technician duties

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Attend special service calls and provide support for operational units as required, e.g. provide cooling water for process, test drainage systems etc.
  • Deliver care and maintenance programme on all INEOS owned breathing apparatus.
  • Deliver care and maintenance programme on complex fire extinguishers maintaining accurate inspection and servicing records
  • Test all complex related firefighting installations, e.g. Hydrants, deluge systems, foam systems, steam rings, CO2 systems and fire alarms
  • Provide training support in the training of contractor and works personnel in breathing apparatus and fire extinguishers. These courses are of two types, the regular weekly courses and the on shift annual refresher sessions.
  • Be aware of responses to hazards in each area by ongoing shift training. Participate in operational shift exercises
  • Inspection of all complex related areas for fire and safety hazards. Reporting any such hazards to line management
  • Provide emergency response support to the complex turnaround programme.
  • Issue of loan equipment from fire station stock, maintaining records of such transactions.
  • Assist the Emergency Medical Technician at accidents or when required.
  • Provide support for security related incidents as required.
  • Maintain high standard of integrity in emergency response vehicles and mobile equipment.
  • General housekeeping duties on fire station related buildings and the fire training ground

Special Features:

  • Constant necessity for self-control in emergency situation where there may be dangers to plant or personnel.
  • Due to limited number of firefighting personnel, initial actions are critical and first few minutes of any incident require extreme physical effort.
  • The complex and its environs are classified as a “hazardous area”. Emergency Response personnel are involved in all operating areas of the complex, each of which have their particular hazards of which the Emergency Responder must be aware.
  • Required to work in all weather conditions, at height and within confined spaces.
  • Must maintain a standard of fitness to meet the requirements of INEOS Firefighter Physical Fitness Standards

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Training to level of post obtained by three months Fire Training College course in basic firefighting 2 years probationary duties and not less than 2 years passed firefighting
  • JOIFF Diploma
  • Knowledge of fire chemistry and chemical and physical properties
  • LGV driving license essential
  • First Aid certificate mandatory
  • Principles and operation of automatic fire and gas detector systems
  • A thorough knowledge of all complex areas, operating principles, equipment and hazards
  • Instructional techniques and BA maintenance where necessary
  • Computer skills to cover routine activities
