E&I Development Engineer - Newton Aycliffe Site

Main role purpose:

The post holder provides technical Electrical & Instrument (E&I) engineering support to the maintenance department of the INOVYN Newton Aycliffe site to ensure that both legal and Company standards are adhered to and that the current and future targets for SHE, asset condition, production and fixed costs are achieved.

Key responsibilities & accountabilities:

  • Ensure all activities comply with the associated INOVYN and INEOS guidelines and rules (including the 20 Principles and the Life Saving Rules).
  • Ensure all E&I legislative and ICER requirements are satisfied.
  • Ensure implementation of the latest required engineering standards to maintain compliance of the E&I systems by managing improvement activities and defining requirements for deliverables, time, cost and other resources.
  • Support the E&I maintenance team on technical issues regarding job scope and equipment specification, including the specification of engineering stores stock items; selecting and commissioning of specialist external services to supplement the internal team where specialist skills or knowledge is required; and defining and managing service contracts where appropriate.
  • Participate in process system developments as the E&I nominee, including Hazops, SIL assessments, RBIs etc.
  • Implement improvements through the management of change process and perform the role of the E&I engineering authority deputy.
  • Take part in capital projects and in some cases manage maintenance capital projects.
  • Manage the E&I maintenance system to ensure that budget and reliability targets are achieved. Specifically this includes inspection system improvements, failure reviews, conditioning monitoring reviews, procedure development, changes to the preventive maintenance system and participation in improvement projects through the innovation system.
  • Perform 11 kV switching operations and general maintenance of the high voltage electrical distribution system.
  • Assess E&I craft competencies and review training plans with the training managers to ensure that all Electrical & Instrumentation crafts personnel are competent to perform their duties. This also includes personal development to maintain the required level of competency.

Key skills & experience required:

  • Electrical & Instrumentation engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in (petro) chemical manufacturing processes plant design, operation and maintenance.
  • Experienced in engineering legislation, standards and techniques; maintenance operations and techniques; boiler house operations and maintenance activities.
  • Experience in and understanding of legislation covering equipment for use in explosive gas/dust atmospheres (CompEx certified).
  • Formally trained to work on High Voltage switchgear.
  • Detailed knowledge of DCS and PLC methodology.
  • Proven problem solver, seen as a primary resource for improving performance. Able to recognise connections and trends seeking systemic solutions to eliminate common and root causes of problems using an orderly approach to decisions decision making.
  • Able to communicate well, both verbally and in writing; ability to adapt and to work easily across all organizational boundaries.
  • Can work on complex assignments requiring interaction with personnel at multiple levels and across functional boundaries, actively seeking input from others and working across different disciplines seeking input and showing a good understanding of the needs of others.
  • High level of initiative, tenacity and assertiveness.
  • Committed, with a flexible approach to work.
  • IT literate with SAP experience and working knowledge of project methodology.
  • Able to lead, guide, coach and support a (small) team of contractors.
