The Position: Distributed Control System (DCS) Engineer  - 

The DCS Engineer administers the Channahon DCS and PLCs by the maintaining and troubleshooting of both hardware and software aspects. The Engineer portion of this position provides administrative and technical support for the DCS/PLC computer systems that control the Polystyrene and Utilities units.

Requirements: 

 Applicable engineering degree (electrical, instrumentation, or control) or 10+ years of process control/instrument control experience.

Experience in general:

  • Manufacturing plant experience and familiarity with ISA and NEC standards preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written.  Must be able to work and communicate/collaborate effectively with operations, maintenance, engineering and management.

Technical Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience with Distributed Control Systems, Honeywell preferred
  • Familiar with Servers, Virtual Machines, Thin Clients, and basic networking. Knowledge of ThinManager, and VMware Vsphere preferred
  • PLC and HMI programming/configuration experience. Predominantly Rockwell.

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for implementing the operating envelopes and Safety Critical Alarms/Systems within the DCS with guidance from Operations.
  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the monitoring systems for Safety Critical Alarms/Systems and Operating Envelops.  Performs weekly audits to ensure compliance.
  • Lead/participate in incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective recommendations to prevent reoccurrence
  • Write and support the Management of Change process through PHA and PSSR Evaluations
  • Monitor system alarms through the DCS console.  Perform maintenance to maximize DCS uptime and reduce risk of shutdowns
  • Update DCS and PLC graphics, data historian, and databases to maintain system current to changing process conditions
  • Work with process technicians and process engineering to install new instrumentation and controls either due to upgrades or new projects.
  • Determine instrument signal paths to the DCS or PLC and make sure to have Loop drawings updated with the change
  • Knowledge of guidelines and precautions of NFPA 70E
  • Work on capital projects to improve the DCS/PLC systems

Physical Requirements: 

  • Frequent viewing a computer monitor, stooping/crouching, balancing, climbing, twisting/turning, reaching above shoulder level, simple grasping/manipulation of both hands, exposure to dust/gas fumes, chemicals/solvents, temperature extremes, high noise levels and electrical sources.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying up to 50lbs, travel, pushing/pulling from a standing/seated position, kneeling, crawling, firm grasping of both hands, operating machinery, wearing occlusive clothing, exposure to allergic agents, enclosed spaces, wet conditions and reduced lighting.
