Main role purpose:
The post holder provides analytical support to help the business meet its regulatory SHE requirements and thus contributing to its licence to operate.
Key responsibilities & accountabilities:
- Produce and implement a daily/weekly plan optimising the analysis schedule to meet operations and wider business needs.
- Safely and efficiently analyse samples using established procedures so that production/environmental processes and the finished products can be controlled within the agreed targets or specifications.
- Validate and report analytical results, indicating any anomalies to more senior staff, to ensure all business decisions are based on robust data; maintain Laboratory Quality Assurance records to satisfy appropriate standards (ISO 9002 /UKAS).
- Analyse unscheduled samples by prescribed or modified methods under supervision, to enable production/environmental, product quality or external customer problems to be resolved.
- Carry out basic instrument maintenance and calibration to the agreed schedule, indicating any problems to more senior staff, to ensure business decisions are made on robust data.
Key skills & experience required:
- An HNC/HND in chemistry/analytical chemistry.
- Able to demonstrate a good range of laboratory skills, including performing analysis, using and calibrating key equipment, processing samples etc.
- Good level of manual dexterity.
- Good communication skills.
- Computer literate.
- Self-sufficient and able to work with minimum supervision.
- Flexible and willing to provide cover for roles other than their own during holidays and absence periods.
- Full clean driving licence.
