Commercial Business Analyst

Context & Purpose of Role

INEOS Nitriles is a global chemicals business with primary products including acrylonitrile, hydrogen cyanide, and acetonitrile, and sales volume of 1200 kte and revenue in excess of $2.4 billion.  The Nitriles business has two manufacturing operations in the US and two in Europe along with offices and headquarters in Rolle, Switzerland and Aurora, Illinois near Chicago.

The Business Analyst is responsible for compiling, challenging and refining the Sales & Business metrics at regional and global level for the Nitriles business. The metrics are used internally by the Business/Sales team to give focus and direction and externally to monitor the performance of the Business Team against defined targets.

The Business Analyst works closely with the Business, Sales and Finance organisations to assist in the implementation of the Sales and Business strategies. The role reports to the Global Business Manager for Nitriles.

Key Accountabilities 

1. Commercial Reporting – improving decision making through the development, standardisation and communication of key commercial reports:

Market Intelligence - capacity database; market indicators; import/export data; spreads by region; key derivative spreads; strategy packs. 

Sales Performance - forecast accuracy; sales flash; contribution reporting; cotract waterfalls; customer presentation; sales metrics. 

2. Business and Product Management Support - supporting the Business and Product Managers with financial reporting and forecasting:

    • Margin dashboards (Monthly)
    • LE Margin analysis (Monthly)
    • Budget submission (Yearly)
    • Netback charts (Monthly)
    • Commercial choke (Monthly)
    • Global stock report (Monthly)

3. Project Work

Implementing business data management tools to improve productivity:

    • Business Analysis
    • Pricing Management
    • Volume Forecasting
    • Customer Management/CRM
    • File/Document Management
    • Internet/Intranet Updates

Providing economic analysis in support of investment projects and providing analytics support for strategy development

4. Ad-hoc requests for the Board, Sales Director and Business Managers

Miscellaneous requests to support board/EXCO meetings and special projects

Experience & Skills 

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor or Masters' degree in Science, Engineering, or Business preferred
  • 5+ years’ work experience in commercial roles

Technical Skills:

  • Commercial acumen
