Commercial Analyst

INEOS Energy is a recently formed group of INEOS, combining the existing INEOS Oil and Gas businesses with the extensive development activities that the company has in developing low carbon technologies for the coming energy transition. This includes INEOS Energy Trading (IETL).

INEOS Energy holds a number of key interests in both the UK and Denmark. The business has a large growth agenda, pursuing both organic and inorganic growth opportunities so as to grow its asset base and production profile. Beyond this, INEOS Energy will be actively looking at business development in energy transition projects such as carbon capture, hydrogen, biofuels and the like.

Job Purpose

As a Commercial Analyst you will support the asset management and commercial operations activities within the UK Asset business to help deliver optimal commercial returns from our UK operated and non-operated assets. The role will provide exposure to a wide range of commercial activities and experiences, ranging from delivering accurate day-to-day gas sales nominations through to undertaking economic analysis to support long term asset investment decisions.

The role will create insights and understanding of the commercial framework and operation of the UK asset portfolio and the opportunity to interface with other disciplines within INEOS Energy (including Finance, Operations and Subsurface) and with external counterparties as required.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Support the undertaking of asset economic evaluations for existing assets for the purpose of evaluating incremental investments, 

  • Work closely with the other commercial team members in providing data-backed recommendations to inform commercial negotiations and activities, including industry research using tools such as Wood Mackenzie and Rystad Energy
  • Administration of asset/project agreements, including supporting negotiation of new agreements and amendments
  • Monitoring fulfilment of existing contract commitments and requirements and maintenance of the Commercial Agreements Tracker database
  • Preparation of key management information to internal stakeholders and contribute to further development of such reports
  • Work on budgeting plans and forecasts for the department
  • Provide ad-hoc support and input to commercial evaluation of M&A opportunities
  • Support the delivery of accurate and timely day-to-day gas nominations and re-nominations to JV Partners, Gas Buyers & Terminal Operator
  • Collect, analyse, and maintain gas nomination, balancing and entry capacity reports and suggest strategies for improving business performance
  • Provide analytical support to Asset Managers and Commercial Advisors relating to general commercial operations aspects
  • Provide cover for other members of the commercial team

Education/Experience

  • Degree education: Either a science degree or a business/economics degree and relevant commercial experience
  • Exposure to financial models providing asset analysis, with some exposure to upstream and downstream activities within the energy industry

Technical Skills

  • IT literacy including intermediate MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to build and validate models developing long-term strategies for the assets and optimising late-life aspects
  • Understanding of project economics, key value drivers and related analysis
  • Possess a commercial mindset and use this when problem solving and taking on new challenges
  • Exposure to and/or an interest in Power BI and Python programming would be an advantage
