The Location: This opportunity is located in Decatur, Alabama, USA
As a member of the Operations manufacturing team,
- Provide day-to-day technical support to the polystyrene units to fulfill product quality requirements and ensure unit operation in a safe and environmentally conscious manner
- Lead troubleshooting, optimization, and process/product improvement efforts
- Plan and execute longer-range efforts to improve the polystyrene unit performance, including process support for maintenance activities, capital projects, and technological upgrades
- Work with a cross functional team to successfully resolve operational challenges, develop, and implement new technology and/or products using data oriented problem solving tools
- Responsible for developing and maintaining the operating envelopes, including identification of parameters, consequence of deviations, corrective actions, and investigating exceedances
- Participate in incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective recommendations to prevent reoccurrence
- Support Process Hazard Analysis and Layers of Protection Analysis
- Support the site’s process safety programs and demonstrate a commitment to Safety, Health, and the Environment through personal action
Level of Education & Knowledge:
- B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering
- Minimum five years relevant experience preferred
- Possess strong basic chemical engineering knowledge in areas such as catalysis, reaction kinetics, mass transfer, filtration, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and process controls
- Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental quality issues
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Familiarity with basic statistical analysis and strong competencies with MS Excel
- Displays strong technical skills and knowledge as required in the polystyrene process technologies
- Able to work and influence in a cross-functional project team
- Innovative and technically astute - understands what is required to achieve business objectives
- Results driven
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and perform tasks requiring repetitive use of hands.
- Must regularly walk and stand, occasionally ascend and descend stairs and ladders, travel by car, or other means.
- Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Must have the ability to see written documents, computer screens, and to adjust focus.
- Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound in person, by radio, or phone.
- Work Environment: This job is performed mainly in a temperature controlled environment. The incumbent will be required to perform work outside under hot or cold conditions at least 25% the time.
