INEOS is a global manufacturer of petrochemicals. It comprises 39 business units; each with a major chemical company heritage. INEOS’s production network spans throughout the world, 183 sites across 31 countries, generating an annual turnover of around $65 billion.
INEOS Trading & Shipping (ITS) trades almost 10 million tonnes of physical feedstock every year enabling other businesses within INEOS; in particular, four highly integrated and differentiated crackers of INEOS in Europe, to manufacture chemicals and polymers.
We have a growing shipping fleet under our control of 20 vessels, which includes the 27,500 cbm Dragon series of ships capable of transporting feedstock from the US to our cracker sites in Scotland and Norway. The shipping team transports more than 8 million tonnes of products per year with around 3000 movements per year across seaborne and inland routes.
We are currently looking for a Charterer to join our organisation as part of a wider Chartering Team. As a key member of the INEOS Trading & Shipping Team, the Charterer is responsible for ensuring spot charters are procured safely, efficiently and provide value for the relevant business.
Role & Responsibilities
- Commercial responsibility of spot chartering activities of bulk shipping and barges for gas and liquid chemicals on behalf of various INEOS Businesses.
- Develop market knowledge of relevant shipping sectors and the impact on trade flows for the INEOS Businesses.
- Ensure all ships and barges are vetted and port cleared under INEOS processes.
- Work closely with Chartering Manager to procure efficient and effective long-term shipping and barging services to generate optimum value. Provide in-depth analysis of offers and relevant benchmarking.
- Ensure all procurement to pay processes are followed. Working closely with Operators, Traders, Ship & Barge Owners, brokers and financial operations, including prompt invoice validation and payment of supplier invoices.
- Form and maintain strong shipping relationships with external counterparties. Assist Chartering Manager in owner and supplier review meetings.
- Key contact for all insurance related shipping disputes with chartering team.
- Support resolution on queries or disputes from counterparties, ship or barge owners, operators or traders.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience with knowledge of shipping & barge operations, especially in terms of transport safety requirements, petrochemicals products, including gasoline blending, naphtha, ethane or LPG.
- Knowledge of marine terminology, contract law, demurrage principles & trading conventions.
- Strong awareness of marine safety requirements. Competent technical and practical knowledge of tank conditioning and last cargo requirements.
- Working knowledge of charterparties, FFA’s, shipping regulations (current & to be implemented), maritime insurance and demurrage claim recoveries.
- Degree level of education preferred but must be numerate.
- Ability to speak other languages preferred but not essential.
- Competent user of suite of Microsoft office applications.
- A bias for action with a proven track record of initiative and complex problem solving. Willingness and energy to take on new tasks with little supervision.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and powerful networking and influencing skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work under extreme time constraint and considerable pressure, with confidence and courage. With ‘can do’ attitude.
- Keen eye for detail and ability to communicate complex situations effectively to management.
- Highly developed conflict resolution skills based on fact-based arguments.
