Asset Development Process Engineer

The INEOS Acetyls business in Hull is based on the east coast of the UK.  It's the largest producer of acetic acid and a range of derivatives, and also home to the business's technology and support team.

The Asset Development Process Engineer utilises their Chemical Engineering expertise to identify, evaluate and implement projects to reduce variable cost, de-bottleneck plant capacity and improve reliability aligned with the A5 asset improvement roadmap and business strategy.  The role will also identify and implement opportunities to drive improved asset performance within existing capability.

The A5 plant is part of the INEOS Acetyls business.  Year on year improvement in safety, reliability, efficiency and production capability are key measures of asset performance that need to be achieved to ensure business requirements are met.

The A5 plant is a top tier COMAH registered plant and the job holder has a key role in ensuring the assets are operated and developed in line with expectations on safety performance and operational integrity.

Accountabilities:

  • Uphold the “INEOS 20 BEHAVIOURAL & PROCESS SAFETY PRINCIPLES” & “Life Saving Rules” in all activities undertaken.
  • Develop a 5-year rolling asset improvement roadmap covering reliability, variable cost and production growth.
  • Ensure in year delivery of the asset improvement roadmap with monthly performance tracking of implemented projects.
  • Support the business development team with the formulation and delivery of the sustainability roadmap.
  • Produce monthly asset efficiency reports and assist performance engineer in setting of KPIs and annual variable cost planning standards.
  • Provide day-to-day support with respect to asset development activities such as plant optimisation and production rate trials.
  • Ownership of A5 plant process simulation models.
  • Line management of the Asset Development Chemist to deliver all chemistry support required to maximise plant reliability and efficiency and deliver roadmap activities.
  • Interface with the Technology Support Team to ensure awareness of global best practice, experience and advice to enhance asset performance and deliver improvement plans. Direct the technology development effort in support of this.
  • Participate in audits and support incident investigations as required.

Education:

  • Degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years industrial experience.
  • Experience of the application of chemical engineering skills in the optimisation of industrial manufacturing, performance benchmarking, technology development and project delivery.
  • Experience in acetyls and syngas process technology would be an advantage.

Technical Skills:

  • Deep conceptual design and process simulation skills including the ability to specify thermodynamic packages and reaction kinetics, and size and rate common unit operations including reactors, heat exchangers and distillation columns.
  • Appreciation of reliability engineering concepts.
  • Effective economic evaluation skills including the development of economic models to support project option screening and technology evaluation.
  • Skilled in development of robust business cases to underpin financial and sustainability benefits of asset technical improvement proposals.
  • Appreciation of intellectual property value and protection, knowledge of patents and freedom to operate requirements.
  • Understanding of capital project processes, experience of major capital projects would be an advantage.
  • Appreciation of mechanical, materials and ICE engineering disciplines and experience of working in multidiscipline teams.
