INEOS at Grangemouth is a top tier COMAH site. Assets include an ethylene cracker, power station, ethane loading terminal and several other major petrochemicals process plants and infrastructure.

The UKAS accredited in-house inspection body require a CAT 1 Inspection Engineer with relevant in-service plant inspection experience to join the current team as an Area Inspection Team Leader to support the current demand for delivering the mechanical asset inspection strategy for the Utilities Offsites area of the INEOS O&P UK business in order to comply with statutory regulations and business goals.

Job Purpose

As an Area Inspection Team Leader you are required to manage the inspection compliance programme for the area as well as being directly involved with inspecting a range of mechanical static equipment as the ‘competent person’ as defined in the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 including, evaluating equipment condition and determining the suitability for further service. Inspections are carried in accordance with INEOS procedures together site standards and international design codes in order to comply with UK legislation. The work will be required to be undertaken as part of shutdowns, major asset integrity projects or ongoing maintenance/inspection programmes.

Job Requirements

  • Develop, implement and manage Inspection programmes to achieve legal compliance and meet site standards and business goals for asset integrity, reliability, effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Accountable for the certification and approval of all Written Schemes of Examination and Inspection reports for the area of responsibility to confirm that they meet legislative requirements and site inspection and integrity standards.
  • Implement Written Schemes of Examination, assess equipment condition and suitability for further service and report outcome.
  • Recommend repairs and advise asset management on the restoration of ‘fit for purpose’ condition.
  • Lead any equipment failure investigations to determine the root cause of the equipment failure to prevent re-occurrence and to improve asset integrity and availability.
  • Manage the resources levels to deliver the inspection programme including 2 inspection engineers currently within the area. Lead the staff development through one-to-one coaching and appraisals.
  • Define, coordinate and deliver specialist inspection support services, e.g. routine and specialist NDT, metallurgical services.
  • Drive the site RBI study for the area of responsibility and implement the outcomes through revised RBI based written schemes of examination.
  • Lead inspection management system audits, maintain and update inspection procedures in keeping with the maintenance of UKAS accreditation for ISO 17020.

Qualifications, knowledge and Skills

  • Candidates to hold a relevant mechanical or materials engineering degree
  • Chartered Engineer as defined by the Engineering Council or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years’ experience of fabrication, maintenance and operation of mechanical static equipment on a high hazard petrochemical manufacturing site of which at least 3 years’ experience within an engineering discipline associated with in-service inspection of pressure systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation (such as PSSR, PED, PSR, PUWER, COMAH), national design codes such as PD 5500 and international codes and standards such as API and ASME.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17020 and proficient auditing experience for maintaining UKAS accreditation for the inspection management system.
  • Experience in managing people and resources.
  • Proficient in the use of computerised management systems such as Credo and Maximo.
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills, excellent eye for detail and an ability to follow procedures accurately.
