INEOS Nitriles is the world’s largest supplier of Acrylonitrile and Acetonitrile and the industry leader in technology, including Acrylonitrile Catalyst.

The candidate for this job will be part of the Catalyst Research and Development Team, supporting the development of new catalysts and Acrylonitrile operations.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Demonstrate strong safety commitment, shown by understanding and practicing safety policies.  Champions and practices the INEOS 20 principles.
  • Provide deep capabilities for elemental characterization in organic and inorganic materials using a broad range of techniques which include: Optical Emission Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (XRF).
  • Develop and implement cost-effective and fit-for-purpose ICP methods which include sample preparation techniques and instrument techniques for materials in Nitriles and other INEOS businesses.
  • Learn and develop skills in additional testing areas such as surface area, particle characterization, redox titration and advanced material characterization techniques, including powder-XRD, solution NMR, FTIR, Raman, SEM-EDS, and XPS.
  • Provide researchers/team members with elemental and material testing options to ensure that results are aligned with research goals and budget. 

Skills & Knowledge Required

Education/Experience

  • BS or MS in Analytical Chemistry or Chemistry
  • 5+ years material science & elemental spectroscopy testing

Skills/Competencies

  • Proven experience in ICP-OES and XRF.
  • Experience in the determination of major, minor and trace elements in aqueous solutions, catalysts, deposits, polymers and organic materials. Hands-on experience with microwave-assisted closed-vessel acid digestions.
  • Hands-on experience with XRD, NMR, FTIR, Raman, SEM-EDS and XPS preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management skills. Able to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office products.
